Since 1987, New Africa Theatre Association (NATA) has created opportunities for disadvantaged young people and communities in Cape Town.
The NATA Academy, equips students with an accredited certificate in Performing Arts (NQF level 5). We offer intensive but affordable training in professional stage skills, as well as life and study skills, for students from struggling communities. This bridges the post-Matric gap to more advanced higher education and to a career in the performing arts industries.
Highly acclaimed NATA Productions concentrate on relevant South African stories and themes. These mainstream and educational plays create opportunities for graduates to be employed, to gain experience and to participate in creating and managing professional drama productions.
NATA is a registered Non-Profit Organisation and therefore we rely on supporters who are enthusiastic about our work and help us to fulfil our mission. As well as support from individuals and foundations, we have had many successful partnerships with companies looking for a suitable CSI investment or marketing opportunity.
We are a Section 21 company, registered with SARS as tax exempt under Section 18(a).

New Africa’s Production Burnt written by Ian Bruce has been nominated for a Fleur de Cape Award as Best South African Script. The 47th annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards ceremony will take place at a glamorous function on Sunday 18th March at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town. The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards is the premier event of its kind in South Africa. For more than four decades, the prestigious awards have been given to outstanding individuals for theatre excellence, specifically focusing on professional theatre productions staged in the Cape Town Metropole and surrounds, over the period of one calendar year.
On the 18th of February 2012 75 very strong hopefuls auditioned for a spot at Magnet Theatre. 20 of these individuals would be crowned with the coveted title of a ‘2012 Magnet trainee’.

At the end of the piece, individuals were told that they would be advised whether they would be requested to attend the call back. A monologue to show variation of character was to be prepared.
Of the 75 hopefuls, 13 were ex NATA graduates. 9 of the ex NATA graduates are now confirmed to be part of the 2012 MAGNET Theatre trainees. WELL DONE to:
